Jennifer Nycz is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Georgetown University. Her research centers on the quantitative analysis of phonetic and phonological variation and what such variation can tell us about linguistic theory. Her past and current projects include studies of dialect change by adults moving to a new region, individual variation in phonetic accommodation and style-shifting, and statistical methods in sociophonetic research. Right now she is particularly interested in the theoretical division of labor between representations and processes in cases of sociophonetic variation, and how social identities and stances relate to linguistic categories. Jen obtained her Ph.D. from New York University and has previously held positions at Haskins Laboratories, the University of York (UK), and Reed College.
