Dr. Ming Xiang is an assistant professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Chicago, and the director of the Language Processing Lab. Her research is geared towards better understanding the processing and neural mechanisms that underlie the rapid, real-time construction of sophisticated linguistic representations. A variety of different techniques are used in her lab, including ERPs, eye tracking, and other behavioral methods. Dr. Xiang primarily works on sentence processing, including syntax, semantics and discourse comprehension. Her recent research focuses on two general areas: the processing of syntactic and semantic dependencies (e.g. wh-in-situ dependencies, ellipsis, and negative polarity licensing) and the context sensitivity of linguistic expressions (e.g. gradable adjectives).
