Assistant Professor
New York University

Lucas Champollion is Assistant Professor of Linguistics at NYU.  He received a Ph.D. in Linguistics (2010) and a M.Sc. in Computer and Information Science (2007), both from the University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation advisors were Cleo Condoravdi and Aravind Joshi. Before joining NYU in 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. In 2009 and 2010 he was a visiting researcher at the Palo Alto Research Center (formerly Xerox PARC). His main research focus as a semanticist is mereology, with applications to distributivity, aspect and measurement. He also studies coordination, event semantics, quantification, definite descriptions, and donkey pronouns. More broadly, he is interested in connecting linguistics with the neighboring fields of philosophy and computer science. His research on formal language theory and computational linguistics has focused on investigating tree-adjoining grammar from different angles, such as treebanking, dependency parsing, and computational complexity.
