Kevin Ryan is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Harvard University. He specializes in phonology, prosody, linguistic poetics, and South Asian languages. His current research aims to model prosodic systems (the organizing constituents of speech), including the syllable/interval, metrical phonology (both stress and poetic meter), and variable sandhi (word-juncture phenomena), drawing mainly on the statistical analysis of speech/textual corpora and experimentation. Though the goal is to illuminate general properties of the language faculty, he often works with South Asian languages, including, recently, Sanskrit and Tamil. He received his Ph.D. in linguistics from UCLA in 2011 with a dissertation entitled "Gradient Weight in Phonology." His most recent research on corpus-driven phonology has appeared in the journals Language and Phonology.
