Jacolien van Rij (University of Tuebingen, Germany) obtained her PhD cum laude in 2012 at the University of Groningen with her dissertation Pronoun processing: Computational, behavioral, and psychophysiological studies in children and adults, which focused on how linguistic and cognitive factors are combined in pronoun processing. She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in Tuebingen, in the Quantitative Linguistics group of Harald Baayen. Jacolien's current research concerns the underlying mechanisms of language processing, and focuses on how listeners use and combine different sources of information during on-line sentence processing. In her research she has used various experimental measures, such as EEG, gaze data, pupil dilation, and reading times. By using generalized additive modeling to analyze these time series data, she has gained considerable experience with advanced statistics. Jacolien has given several short courses and lectures on generalized additive modeling for psycholinguistic data.
