Yusuke Kubota is Assistant Professor at the Institute for Comparative Research in Human and Social Sciences at the University of Tsukuba, and Visiting Researcher at the Department of Linguistics at the Ohio State University (2013-2016). He received his PhD in Linguistics from the Ohio State University in 2010. His primary research areas are syntax and semantics, with a special focus on developing linguistic theories with precise mathematical underpinnings. He has worked on a variety of topics in syntax and semantics, including coordination, ellipsis, complex predicates, and tense and aspect. Together with Robert Levine, he is currently developing a version of categorial grammar called Hybrid Type-Logical Categorial Grammar, which is aimed at providing a comprehensive framework of natural language syntax that is both easy to use for linguists and at the same time good at handling phenomena that have proven to be problematic for existing syntactic theories.
