Heidi Harley is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Arizona. She is interested in the relationship between lexical semantics, syntax, and morphology, and has worked for many years within the Distributed Morphology framework. She has published papers on causatives, complex predicates, pronouns, suppletion, weak crossover, compounding, denominal verbs, roots and lexical decomposition, and has recently begun considering the problems posed by valence-decreasing operations like passivization for syntacticocentric theories like Distributed Morphology. Languages of interest include English, Italian, Japanese, Persian, Irish, Icelandic and Hiaki. She has supervised 19 doctoral dissertations, and lives in Tucson, AZ with husband Art Torrance and toddler Jasper.
