E. Allyn Smith is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Quebec at Montreal, where she is also affiliated with the Cognitive Science Institute and the Centre for Brain, Language, and Music. She received her Ph.D. in Linguistics from The Ohio State University in 2010 and spent two years as a Mellon postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University prior to joining UQAM in 2012. Her research interests include semantics, pragmatics and social meaning from theoretical and experimental perspectives, especially as these relate to a typology of meanings in natural language. She is an Associate Editor for the International Review of Pragmatics and a member of the executive committee for the American Pragmatics Association.
