Guiding Your Class to Edit Wikipedia

Stop your students from citing Wikipedia -- have them add to it instead!

This information session, led by Gretchen McCulloch, will get you started in having students edit Wikipedia as a course activity, either at the Institute or as part of regular courses. We'll look at classroom resources from Wikimedia and previous syllabi from linguistics classes that have used Wikipedia, including advice on setting up a classroom hub page, liaising with Wikimedia, building relationships with existing Wikipedia editors to help, choosing which pages to edit, teaching the mechanics of editing, teaching encyclopedic writing and citation style, using existing tutorials, designing assignments, and tracking student contributions.

Note that the classroom session does not focus on how to edit Wikipedia in general; for that please also attend one or more of the Wednesday editathons.
